What makes Kitchen Chemistry classes special:
With over 10 years of experience teaching baking to preschoolers through middle schoolers, I design activities that are educational, engaging, and delicious. Classes integrate math, science, and culture into the baking process.
Past programs include:
- Breads Around the World – Students explored global bread-making traditions and studied maps, learning geography in the process
- My Own Bakery – Kids developed restaurant/bakery business concepts, creating menus and pricing strategies
- Baking with Math – Using ratios and fractions to scale recipes up and down; exploring shapes, volume, etc.
- Cookbook Project – Students created and published a class cookbook with favorite family recipes, then prepared a community meal for the cookbook launch celebration
- Kitchen Chemistry – Exploring chemical reactions, temperature, and states of matter through baking
- Baking and Nature – Exploring the importance of trees and baking a cake using tree-based ingredients, such as maple syrup, cinnamon, fruits, and coconut oil; baking with honey and learning about pollinators; baking with seasonal ingredients and exploring what grows locally
I’m happy to customize lessons to meet your specific educational goals, dietary needs, and age range.
